Being different is not an easy task in today's competitive consultancy market, but the National Engineering Services, Pakistan (NESPAK) has the courage and guts to make a considerable difference by competing the cut-throat competition with elegance and confidence. It has only become possible due to the tireless efforts by its committed employees.

By the Grace of the Almighty, NESPAK has managed to maintain its distinction by getting robust business during the current year despite increasing competition in the engineering consultancy market. The Company secured a total of 96 new projects, worth Rs. 1,250 billion at home and abroad. The total includes nine foreign projects acquired in the countries of Afghanistan, Oman and Qatar.

The year 2015-2016 has been a brilliant year for NESPAK with regard to business acquisition. The fee contracted during the year is 11 percent more than the year 2014-15. The domestic and overseas business was attained due to NESPAK's notable performance score in the public and private sectors.

The fresh jobs include the Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control, Communication Centre, Lahore, Jalalpur Irrigation Project, Hakla-Dera Ismail Khan Motorway, Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway, Upgradation of Trimmu & Panjnad Barrages Improvement Project, Rangers Wings Project, COMSATS Institute of Technology, Quetta, Standardisation of 200 Higher Secondary Schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Water Supply, Sewerage Stormwater Drainage & Groundwater Management System in Sheikhupura, Kasur & Nankana Sahib and the Chunian Industrial Estate, Kasur.

NESPAK continued its off-beat and leading edge services for 258 ongoing projects worth Rs. 4,800 billion. The major ongoing jobs include the Neelum-Jhelum Hydroelectirc Project, three Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG)-based Combined Cycle Power Plants in Sheikhupra, Jhang & Kasur, Kachhi Canal Project Phase-I, Orange Line Metro Train, Lahore, Wadi Shafan Road & Sohar Roundabout, Sultanate of Oman and Dams & Water Transmission Projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

NESPAK successfully completed services for 40 projects worth Rs. 370 billion during the year under review. The completed projects comprise 747MW Combined Cycle Power Plant, Guddu, Load Despatch Upgrading Project, Islamabad, Punjab Irrigation System Improvement Project, Rehabilitating the Lower Chenab Canal Project, Quick Impact Projects in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas, FDA City Housing Scheme, Faisalabad, Caynon Views Development Project, Islamabad, Jallo Botanical Garden, Lakhodair Landfill Site (Lot I & II), Lahore and Nishtar Kidney Centre, Jalalabad, Afghanistan.

Among the milestones achieved during the year was Pakistan's maiden trenchless sewerage project in the form of the Larech Colony-Gulshan-e-Ravi Sewerage System. The project will be carried out with the help of tunnel boring machine and pipe jacking, which is the first experiment in Pakistan. Another important national job was the signing of a contract with the Pakistan Commissioner for Indus Waters to provide consultancy services for the preparation of Pakistan's case against India's design of Rattle and Kishanganga Hydroelectric Plants for presentation before the Neutral Expert.

NESPAK also inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a Chinese firm, Yellow River Engineering Consulting Company Limited to work jointly for integrated river basin planning, flood control planning, IT-based simulation & modelling and 3D design of large-scale water resources projects.

NESPAK continues to raise its graph as far as its professional growth and size are concerned. The number of NESPAK employees swelled to 5,282 in 2015-16 as compared to 4,648 in 2014-15, showing an increase of 634 employees, most of them professionals.

NESPAK takes utmost care of the well-being of its employees not only in terms of their financial prosperity, but also for their religious and spiritual development. The living example is the Hajj balloting which enabled 10 employees to perform Hajj during the year.

Quality has always been at the highest priority at NESPAK and it is achieved through attaining the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and upgrading the quality of services.

As part of the QMS implementation, the Internal Quality Audit Programme was issued for various NESPAK Divisions/Offices for the year 2016 in advance to monitor implementation of the QMS on the design and construction supervision-related activities.

A two-day Surveillance Audit was conducted by the Lead Auditor/Technical Experts of TUV Austria Bureau of Inspection and Certification in June 2016 in various divisions at NESPAK Head Office Lahore and Islamabad. A two-day Surveillance Audit was also conducted by TUV Austria in December 2015 at the Lahore and Karachi offices of the organisation. The audits were extensive aiming at measuring the conformance of NESPAK QMS to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 Standard. The QMS was found compliant by the TUV Austria auditors and NESPAK was recommended for continued certification.

Although business during the year was outstanding, substantive efforts are being made to win more work and earn good reputation for the Company. May the Almighty help us in picking the fruit of efforts the dedicated NESPAK employees are putting in to attract the new clients to keep the Company in the forefront. Amen!
