The name of NESPAK has become synonymous with toil, hardwork, endurance and perseverance which resulted in growth, success and prosperity for the Company.
The Company, which was established to bring different engineering disciplines under one roof, has come a long way during the last 44 years of its existence. The journey of success and struggle continued with new achievements during the year with the Company scaling new heights while compensating for its loopholes and mistakes.
NESPAK has attained the status of a leader in the consultancy industry through a long struggle but retaining this position was even more challenging. It required an even harder struggle which NESPAK went through with panache and elegance. A lowdown of the progress depicts a brilliant upsurge in the current year's business. The fee contracted during the year was Rs. 11.87 billion which is 18 percent more than the year 2015-16.
The increase in business was made possible due to NESPAK's concerted and consistent policies to get good projects. The efficiency and effectiveness of NESPAK's aggressive marketing are evident from the fact that it won more than 70 percent jobs through open competition out of a total of 105 projects in Pakistan and overseas during the year 2016-17.
The major projects acquired during the fiscal year include Punjab Power Plant Jhang, Hanzel Hydropower Project, Tarap-KotBelian Road and Havelian-Thakot Expressway for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Dualisation of Khanewal-Lodhran Road, Quetta Development Package-Road Projects, Permanent Reconstruction Works in Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Infrastructure Design of Islamabad Metro Bus, DHA Medical City Phase-VIII, Lahore, 100-bed Mother and Child Care Hospital, Murree and Landslide Hazard Zonation of Murree Hills. The 10 foreign projects acquired during the year include Raising Wala Dam, Jordan and Rehabilitation of Rural Access Roads and Mobility Project-II, Nigeria.
Social thinker John Ruskin has rightly said that quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort. NESPAK always strives to take practical steps to achieve best quality by enhancing its expertise through guidance and training. During the year, NESPAK arranged nine professional and management training programmes in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad wherein 256 professionals attended technical lectures in the field of managerial and support competencies. Professionals are being sent to foreign countries to acquire knowledge of the latest trends in the domains of water resources, energy, environment management e.t.c.
Workforce is the show window of a Company and NESPAK regards its employees as its great asset. As the volume of work increases, NESPAK raises its staff strength to carry out its operations in a more effective manner. The current strength of NESPAK staff stands at 5552, including professionals and technical experts in various engineering disciplines.
Quality has always been taken a great care at NESPAK. This is achieved through attaining the ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) of NESPAK as well as continuously upgrading the quality of our services.
As part of the QMS implementation, the Internal Quality Audit (IQA) Programme was issued for various NESPAK Divisions/Offices for the year 2017 in advance to monitor implementation of the QMS on design and construction supervision-related activities.
The Surveillance Audits were conducted by the Lead Auditor/Technical Experts of TUV Austria Bureau of Inspection and Certification in December 2016 and May2017 in various divisions at NESPAK Head Office Lahore, Islamabad and Karachi. The audits were extensive aiming at measuring the conformance of NESPAK QMS to meet the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 Standard. The QMS was found compliant with the requirements of the standard by the Lead TUV Austria auditors and NESPAK was recommended for continued certification.
Though the year 2016-17 was brilliant, yet NESPAK could not bank upon past successes. It believes in moving forward and constantly looking for the greener pastures. Efforts are being made to explore new business in the Middle East and North Africa. Not only that, NESPAK has also started focusing on the South East Asia Region, particularly Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore, Philippines and Vietnam for possible business acquisition. It is refreshing to note that clients of NESPAK are satisfied with the Company's cost-cutting and up-to-date services, yet more efforts are required to win new clients. May Allah reward us with the courage and valour to succeed in all of our endeavours.
Ameen.
